Out of Hours

To contact a doctor when the surgery is closed at weekends and between the hours of 6.30 pm and 8.00 am Monday to Friday, please telephone NHS 111 (dial 111 from your phone for free) and your call will automatically be forwarded to the Somerset Out of Hours Medical Service

Telephone Advice

If you need to speak to a doctor or nurse on the telephone, please try to telephone (Williton 632701) either between 8.30 am and 9.00 am or between 11.30 am and 12 noon, when the clinician is more likely to be available. We try not to interrupt consultations except in an emergency.

Over the Counter Medicines

Remember that your local pharmacist can give you advice about medicines. The following medicines are available direct from your local chemist without prescription to treat some common ailments.

  • Ibuprofen / Paracetamol tablets for pain relief
  • Paracetamol mixture (eg Calpol, Disprol) pain relief for youngsters
  • Cough linctus for all types of coughs
  • Gaviscon liquid or tablets for hiatus hernia and heartburn
  • Loperamide capsules for control of diarrhoea
  • Dioralyte or Rehydrat rehydration fluids very useful for children with diarrhoea
  • Laxatives (e.g. Senna, Fybogel, Lactulose) for the relief of constipation
  • Mebendazole / Ovex / Pripsen sachets for treatment of worms Various treatments for head lice
  • Hydrocortisone 1% cream for application to allergic rashes and insect bites, (but not for the face)
  • Olive oil ear drops for waxy ears
  • Daktarin / Canesten cream for athletes foot
  • Ibuleve gel for the relief of muscular pains and sprains
  • Canesten pessary & cream for treatment of vaginal thrush
  • Various treatments for relief of cystitis
  • Nicotine patches & chewing gum to help stop smoking
  • Antihistamines (e.g. Piriton / Clarityn / Zirtek) for itchy or allergic rashes and hay fever
  • Salactol (mild) for all warts
  • Posalfilin (strong) for verrucae only
